pocket sunglasses

SUNPOCKET – THE ICON IS BACK
The story and heritage of Sunpocket is rather amazing. Sunpocket was found in France late 1970’s and during the 80’s Sunpocket leading within the sports segment and soon spread to the fashion scene. The foldable sunglasses combined style and functionality at a nice price point.

Call it savoir vivre, but in matters mercurial, the French have got a lot right. Back in the 1980s, the land’s ski resorts were the hub of global high life, attracting the rich, famous and regal to its slopes. This was the backdrop for Sunpocket’s original rise to recognition. With all weather design, tailored for the active, the lenses are made for 100% UV sun protection and have darkened uppers and lowers to fend off the glare from both sun and snow (or water of course), making them as functional as they are stylish. It’s little wonder they soon became the winter and summer sports brand of choice. And though they were an emblem of easy Eighties high-living they were never about conspicuous consumerism, more a sort of easy throw-on style, that was reflected in the way the frames fold up.
Replete with the original style and modernised construction, Sunpocket is making a comeback, with both bright red and preppy tortoiseshell styles coming through. Though they went inexplicably off radar post-Eighties, a couple of years back in 2009, Jacob Hoglund discovered a pair in his parents’ Norwegian ski lodge. He liked them so much that he brought the company back out of mothballs for a relaunch and now le rayonnement francais is being exported by a Swede. Retro, cool, functional and utterly accessible, they are making their way into the pockets of many a tastemaker. And you don’t even have to go skiing to wear them.
